Meritaimen are having a good time in Perhonjoki, but there is still a way to a good situation.

The autumn catch of sea trout mother fish was done in Perhonjoki. The request fell slightly short of the goals.

There is a common sea trout population in Perhonjoki and Lestijoki, and therefore some of the fry from the mother fish collected from Perhonjoki in the fall end up in Lestijoki.

However, it has proven to be less pleasant for sea trout than the neighboring river.

The school of mother fish is caught every three to four years because it supports biodiversity.

Perhonjoki’s sea trout population is mainly planted only in Lestijoki and Perhonjoki, so the number of mother fish does not have to be very large.

– This year, catching the mother fish fell a little short of the goals, but we caught enough, says Heinimaa.

Perhonjoki has been invested in during the last decade. The river has been renovated with fish in mind. There is still a long way to go for the situation to be good.

– Yes, it will pay off the investments now, when the mature fish have the opportunity to return to their home river to spawn, says Heinimaa.
