Choreographer Jari Saarelainen bought a hundred-year-old wooden house and turned it into a miniature villa. In turn, the house made its owner a writer. In this story, you can listen as Saarelainen tells his story in his own words.
Not an old house by any means. Definitely not far from the center of Helsinki. And absolutely nothing to repair.
This was all forgotten when a small yellow house with a lovely semi-circular balcony appeared in the apartment sale notice.
– I immediately said let’s go see it!
Repairing and Nikkarointi were not interesting to the couple. The slightly dilapidated house, surrounded by a wild garden, was only meant to be renovated for comfortable living.
A few years after the move, serious moisture damage was revealed. A major renovation that lasted a couple of years began, as a result of which Saarelainen got the mini-villa of his dreams from the house.
He started sharing pictures of his interior design solutions with thoughtful texts on his Instagram account. The house rewarded the owners who took notice of it: Saarelainen’s Kotiografi account already has more than 25,000 followers.
The house also turned its inhabitants into a writer, as the building’s Cinderella story is bound in book covers this year.
– This is not a fancy building, but a board house, which was originally in the middle of a potato field and a field. But this is still here! I think it’s amazing. And now this is really great.
