Dorna Sports, the owner of the MotoGP series, has not yet officially announced next year’s race calendar, but the Iiti motor track will not be in race condition by the time the calendar is completed.
– In order for Kymiring to be on next summer’s calendar, we should have a track inspection in order between September and October. We are not in inspection condition, so yes, that also means that we cannot be on next summer’s calendar, he says.
The Kymiring MotoGP race was canceled from last summer due to the unfinished track. Running into financial difficulties, Kymiring applied for corporate restructuring in the summer, and the necessary improvements to the track have not been able to be made.
The renovation program decides
According to Kymiring CEO Rönnholm, whether a MotoGP series race could be run at Kymiring in 2024 will only be considered once the renovation program has been confirmed.
– In any case, getting MotoGP or another international race requires that the seats are in order. If we just manage to do it, it will certainly be possible to fix them by 2024.
He states that at the moment it is difficult to estimate exactly what it would cost to restore the track to MotoGP condition, because the costs have risen. However, it is about millions, not tens of millions of euros.
In the last share issue, Kymiring was able to raise half a million euros in additional financing.
According to Riku Rönnholm, national-level motorsport events can be organized at Iiti next summer as well with relatively little additional work.
