The city council decided on Monday that the service situation and needs for changes in teaching and early childhood education must be clarified.
The city of Lahti’s economy seems to have a considerable surplus this year, even though the economic forecast has weakened.
The financial and operational report for January-August reveals that the surplus is estimated to be 36.5 million euros this year.
Lahti estimates that its contribution to the Päijät-Häme welfare association is exceeded by 7.5 million euros. More than five million euros more than previously estimated is going to the municipal portion of the labor market support. Also in cultural services, the excess is estimated to be around five million.
On the income side, the capital gain from the sale of the city hospital is about two million more than estimated. According to the forecast, the city’s tax revenues will also increase from last year.

The city council of Lahti, which met on Monday, decided to propose to the city council the approval of the budget changes in accordance with the proposed decision.
However, the city government requires that an operational and financial report on early childhood education and pre-primary and basic education be drawn up in the education service area. An external expert may be used in the investigation.
The report must be completed by the end of April 2023. The analysis must include the development and change needs of the services and their timetables.
