A new interpretation of Minna Canth’s play has sparked a debate between the audience and the play’s director. This autumn has seen a lot of interaction between Kajaani’s performing arts actors.
Anna Liisa, co-produced by Kajaani City Theatre and Routa Company, premiered at the City Theatre in September. The performance is a new interpretation of Minna Canth’s classic play from 1895. Helsingin sanomat, among others, has included the performance in its list of shows to look forward to.
– It feels like it has brought people together around painful and difficult issues.
“We have also been praised for the joy of the show,” he adds.
– The show has received a lot of positive feedback. People want to comment on it.
According to Anni Mikkelson, director of the Kajaani City Theatre, the theater’s repertoire has sold well this fall.
– The theater is clearly interesting. Nälkämaa’s Jussille Bride’s day shows are sold out. The home performances of my grandfather’s couplet maakari in Sissilinna have gone like hot stones.
Cooperation has been exceptionally rich
This fall, Kajaani’s performing arts actors have planned more joint activities. For example, the Anna Liisa performance was realized together with Kajaani City Theater and Routa Company.
In November, the Räntä festival takes place, where in addition to the Kajaani city theater, Routa Company, Vaara collective, Kaukametsä congress and culture center, Kajaani art museum and Rauniokaupunki ry are participating.
– Everyone’s goal is for the city to be lively and interesting for city dwellers as well as people from outside the city.
