District court sends those who assaulted and subjected a 14-year-old girl to prison – two also sentenced for crimes against a 16-year-old girl

Päijät-Häme District Court has sentenced three people for the brutal and prolonged assault of a 14-year-old girl.

The district court charged the 21-year-old man with aggravated assault and aggravated false imprisonment on 13 December 2021.The district court found the 21-year-old woman guilty in the same case of robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated false imprisonment and threatening a person in court.The 20-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated false imprisonment in that case.

The 21-year-old man and woman were also charged with offences against a 16-year-old girl at the time of the offences, which took place a few weeks earlier in December 2021. The district court convicted the man of disseminating a sexually explicit image and disseminating information that violates privacy. The woman was found guilty of robbery and threatening a person in court.

The district court gave the 21-year-old man four years of unconditional imprisonment as a joint punishment for five crimes. The woman was sentenced to four years and six months of unconditional imprisonment for six crimes. The district court ordered them to be arrested and transported to prison.

In addition to the crimes related to the case, the 20-year-old man who participated in the assault of the 14-year-old was charged with seven traffic offenses. The common punishment for all of these is two years and eight months of unconditional imprisonment.

The district court also obliged all three convicts to various compensations. They must jointly and severally pay their 14-year-old victim 13,000 euros for, among other things, pain, stiffness and other temporary inconvenience. Taivaanranta’s share in the mutual division of responsibility is one quarter, based on actions.

The judgment of the district court is not yet legally binding. It is possible to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
