Juuso Honkanen is training about 700 hours for triathlon this year. Next year, the World Cup will be held in his hometown, Lahti.
– I can’t say that I still like swimming very much. Cycling and running are equally strong. It depends on the day which one goes better, thinks the athlete representing Nastola Triathlon.
– I noticed in the fast and sharp hill moves that the guy just doesn’t get tired when the other players started to fall off the ride, says Kaila.
Floorball at Pelicans remained, and this year Honkanen is training about 700 hours for triathlon. Kaila is his triathlon coach.
Honkanen has already achieved two competition victories in the international Ironman series for 18–24-year-olds.
Intermediate stages and fatigue
In the performance, Juuso Honkanen swam 1.9 kilometers. After that, he cycles 90 kilometers and runs on top of that another 21 kilometers, or the so-called half distance.
On the easy route, it takes about four hours.
– There will always be difficult moments. During the race, I justify to myself why I can’t give up. I also do small stages, i.e. when running I go for example a kilometer at a time. When you proceed with small steps, the finish line does get closer little by little, says Honkanen.
The goal of the Lahtai teenager is long-distance Ironman competitions and international success in them.
Six weeks in the US
This year, in addition to his Finnish championship medals, Juuso Honkanen has earned a place in the World Championships in the sport, which will be held in October in the United States.
At the end of the week, he travels with his coach behind the rapako.
– You could talk about a six-week training camp, which also includes a few competitions.
Honkanen is still silent about the placement goals for the World Cup.
– It’s a tough competition. I’ll do a complete performance, and we’ll see how far it goes.
If everything goes well, Honkase will have a good place on the screen at the 2023 World Cup. They take place in his home grounds in Lahti.
On Friday, Juuso Honkanen finished his graduation papers, and at the moment he is focusing on sports with the help of his supporters.
– I invest in sports for a year and a half, then it’s the army’s turn. Before the army, you have to decide how your sports career will continue.
