The Ruka loop of about a kilometre is made up by skiing a 500-metre stretch back and forth. The route is part of the FIS5 World Cup circuit.

The winter season for skiers is slowly beginning, as first snow trails open up across the north.

Kuusamo Ruka’s cross-country ski trail will be officially opened on Saturday, following the shoreline of Lake Talvijärvi between the small jump hill and the Impilinna ascent.

The length of the Säilumen track is about 500 metres in each direction, making it a one-kilometre loop if skied back and forth.

– It has been talked about for some time, but at least we still go without payment. Of course, the machine entrepreneur’s costs have increased, just because of the increase in fuel prices. In the future, the first snow slope will be longer, let’s see the situation, says Niskanen.

The track is lit daily from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.
