The Culture Gala will take place on Friday 24 November in Tampere, Finland. An event open to the public is planned for next year.
The nominees for the second edition of the Culture Gala have been announced today in Tampere.
The aim of the Culture Gala is to reward cultural and artistic acts, works and creators that are new, original or important.
The Culture Gala will take place on Friday 24 November in Tampere, Finland. The Gala will be broadcast live on Yle Arena and TV1 from 19:00.
The gala evening culminates with the announcement of the Cultural Person of the Year and the Cultural Work of the Year, chosen by public vote.
The voting period started today and ends on November 2 at 23:59.
A major public event in the future
Even this year, the Culture Gala is an invitation-only event for about 250 people.
The gala will also be held next year in Tampere, but then there will be an event open to the public, says Riia Martinoja.
– We are making a really brave leap when we start to grow the Culture Gala into a big public event. We believe that culture and interest take hold, Martinoja thinks.
Martinoja has also worked as the general secretary of the Sports Gala. He finds the cultural side of building the festival inspiring.
– We have no restrictions, we can do very freely. I hope that we break the pattern of what gala events are traditionally thought of as.
