A small backup power plant in Lahti can help fill the electricity shortage

The grid company Fingrid can, if necessary, start the old generator in Sopenkorve.

Fingrid may sometimes need backup power plants to keep electricity production and consumption in balance.

In difficult situations, Fingrid may also have to use the backup power plant in Lahti for electricity production. In Lahti’s Sopenkorve, there is a small and old gas and oil generator that belongs to Lahti Energia, but Fingrid has a license agreement for it.

The Lahti power plant is the smallest power plant that Fingrid can run to maintain the electricity balance. For example, on September 8, Olkiluoto 3 produced electricity at a lower power than planned, which is why Fingrid balanced the situation by starting the backup power plants in Jorois and Forssa.

Fingrid has backup power plants in different parts of Finland.
