The Finns in Turkey said that they have been asked to pay for accommodation separately at the hotels, because the hotels have not received payments from Detur. The situation affects the vacation trips of about 800 Finns.
The Turkish Ministry of Tourism has intervened in the chaos faced by Finnish tourists in Turkey. It has demanded that hotels are not allowed to collect fees a second time or take Finns’ passports.
The situation was caused by the financial ambiguities of the Swedish tour operator Deturi. Detur announced that it is suspending its operations and canceling all charter trips for the rest of the year, says the Swedish public broadcasting company SVT.
– Turkey is trying to make sure that Finnish tourists will continue to come here, says Pahkasalo.
About 800 Finns
Consul Pahkasalo arrived today from Ankara to Alanya and held negotiations with Deturi’s local staff. In the afternoon, he is going to hotels where customers have been refinanced.
There are about 1,700 Detur customers in Alanya, about half of whom are Finnish citizens. The last flight came from Finland yesterday.
– They have been assured that they can stay in the hotel and go to Finland according to the normal schedule. The flights have already been paid for, and there should be no worries that they won’t be able to fly to Finland.
Pahkasalo says that the holiday of some Finns may be shortened from two weeks to one week, and if this happens, customers should apply for compensation directly from Detur.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received twenty contacts regarding the matter, the embassy 1-2. Pahkasalo calms down the situation so that things become clearer.
