Kalajoki’s accommodation revenue up from last year – more rental bikes needed to promote growing cycle tourism

Despite a drop in overnight stays in July, the peak month of the summer, accommodation revenues have increased again this year.

Visit Kalajoki’s Executive Director Seija Vesala hopes for more services to meet the needs of tourists.

This year, tourism accommodation in Kalajoki has sold five (5) per cent more accommodation in euro terms than last year. This is according to the statistics, which at this stage go back to the end of July.

June was an exceptionally busy month for accommodation, with growth of 23%. July was less so, with numbers down by 19 per cent. Despite this, accommodation revenue was up 9% on last year.

The growth in accommodation associations is partly explained by the desire for better quality accommodation, partly by higher prices .

The lack of hot days especially affected the number of day visitors and was reflected in the use of services. Instead, the stores benefited.

In July, Kalajoki was still the fourth largest tourist city in Finland after Helsinki, Tampere and Turku.

Looking forward to the future

Kalajoki’s accommodation capacity continues to increase with construction.

In the future, big tourist hopes are directed, among other things, to the guest marina with its services to be built in Keskuskari.

– In our view, Bicycle tourism is growing all the time. We need more good quality rental bikes in the area, Vesala hopes.

In the region, the year-round growth of tourism is being followed with satisfaction.
