Hunters warned about critically endangered spruce grouse in North Ostrobothnia

The tortoiseshell goose is a protected species and can be fined more than €6 300 for killing it.

Two extremely endangered spruce grouse were spotted today in Tyrnävi, North Ostrobothnia.

The Finnish Game Centre and WWF urge waterfowl hunters to be especially cautious in the Liminga Bay area due to the presence of tortoiseshell geese. They point out that species identification becomes more difficult, especially at dusk.

Whooper geese have not stopped during their autumn migration in Finland for about 50 years, but now they have been observed in three autumns in a row.
