The CEO of Lahti Pelicans, which is celebrating silver in the league, says that the team wants to unite the whole of Päijät-Hämne. One way to do that could be to organise different events.
The best front row seats in the fenced-off area of Lahti Market were taken as soon as the gates opened in the afternoon. Why not, as the event, organised by Lahti Pelicans and the City of Lahti, celebrates Pelicans’ historic league silver medal in glorious weather.
– The god of the air is on our side. The more than 3 000 people will come here, he assures us.
Hockey connects
In addition to Pelicans’ medal ceremony, you can also watch the reigning world champions, the Lions, fight for the title.
Friday night is also punctuated by live music, so the atmosphere is guaranteed – and guaranteed to bring the townspeople together. That’s what the Pelicans want too. It is desirable, because the stakes for the next season are high after the silver.
– We are the whole Lahti team, but we are also the whole Päijät-Häme team. We see ourselves as a large regional operator and want to bring more and more people together. We want to create vitality in the area with, for example, events like this, of course in cooperation with the city, says Pöyhönen.
A common Eurovision stand for the whole city
On Saturday, the Eurovision final will be watched in the event area. There will certainly be enough people waiting for the winner and thirsty for Saturday as well. The pelicans dressed in turquoise Pelicans give the setting a full ten.
– For once, the city’s decision-makers have had the wisdom to make good decisions, organizing something like this cost very little, says a man from Lahti who came to celebrate.
– I am so proud of our Lahti, says a lady from Lahti, who is rejoicing in the middle of the party buzz.
