For the first time, the calculation of emissions also included camping.

A total of 20 cities and municipalities participated in the survey. The calculation model is constantly being developed.

Lahti has ranked first when comparing the greenhouse emissions per inhabitant of 20 municipalities.

According to calculations, the carbon footprint of the people of Lahti has decreased compared to the results of two years ago.

Energy and food are still the most significant sources of consumption emissions.

The differences between the cities that participated in the comparison are not large, and the calculation of the results is mainly based on the information reported by the participants themselves.

In the consumption greenhouse gas emissions calculation model developed by the Natural Resources Center (Luke) and Sitowise, the emissions are divided into five sectors: energy consumption, construction, movement, food, and goods and services.

The calculation model has been continuously developed, and for example the calculation of streets, roads and bridges has now been added to the emissions of construction.

Previous results from 2020 have also been updated to be comparable.

According to Sitowise, which published the comparison, the greenhouse emissions of municipalities and cities have been decreasing in recent years.

However, no similar development has been observed in terms of consumption emissions. However, reliable and comparable information is much more limited, the report states.
