The city of Jyväskylä expects the boat and the accompanying miniature exhibition to be a good attraction among the city’s Aalto destinations.

The world-famous architect and designer’s boat is the only one of its kind, and it was transported to the port of Jyväskylä twenty kilometers from Muuratsalo already last fall.

The boat has its own boat shelter in the harbor next to the sauna restaurant Viilu.

Alvar Aalto’s motorboat designed for himself in the 1950s will be accompanied by a miniature exhibition by the Alvar Aalto Museum.

According to the city of Jyväskylä, the Aalto boat and the miniature exhibition are expected to add good tourism to Jyväskylä’s already abundant Aalto destinations.

Aalto designed the boat as a means of transportation for his summer villa in Säynätsalo, the Muuratsalo test house.

The boat was named *Nemo propheta in patria*, meaning No one is a prophet in his own country.

The boat, which is part of the Alvar Aalto Foundation’s design collection, has been restored by restoring the exterior surfaces and fixed furniture and conserving the original parts.

The program of the boat unveiling event starts at the port of Jyväskylä on May 17 at 2 p.m. The event is open to everyone and free of charge.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Alvar Aalto’s birth.
