Nokiottat by Kuortaneites was nominated for local work of the year

The finalist books deal with Kuortanetta, Järvenpää and Vääksy. The winner will be decided at the beginning of October at the Turku Book Fair.

Homeland work of the year finalists
Three books are nominated for Homeland Work of the Year. Jussi Nuorteva (left) chooses the winning work. Jukka Hako was the chairman of the Homeland Work of the Year board.

The book also sidesteps politics: a left-wing movement was hardly born in Kuortane, and a right-wing movement even more so. The local work does not forget religion either. Pietism’s specialty, vasulism, lived strongly in Kuortane.

The Nokiottat work has 639 pages. It has been published by the municipality of Kuortanee.

Among forty works

40 works from different parts of Finland were entered for the Kotiseutuliitto’s competition. Three works were selected for the final. In addition to the book about the home region of Kuortanen, books about Järvenpäätä and Vääksy are seeking profit.

Jussi Nuorteva, the long-time director of the National Archives, will select the winner and announce the Homeland Work of the Year at the Turku Book Fair on October 1.
