The rains at the end of the week will complicate the flood situation in North Ostrobothnia at the weekend. During Thursday evening and night, it has rained very heavily in some places, and the rains have continued even during Friday.

– Yes, we can talk about quite significant flooding events in many places, and the first information about soaked buildings has already arrived.

According to Eskelinen, a flood in North Ostrobothnia is predicted to occur about once in ten years, but in some places the water will rise higher. For example, Nivala’s Malisjoki and Temmesjoki south of Oulu are predicted to flood once every 20 years.

A clearly higher-than-average flood peak is also expected in Pyhäjoki, and the damage limit has already been exceeded in Siikajoki’s Harjunniva.

To the north of Oulu, the floods are more clearly timed for May. The river is expected to rise to the average spring flood level by mid-May.
