A new ore prospecting reservation in Asikkala’s Kalkkis – \”Residents and cottagers are again in a loose log\”

A new reservation has been made on the east side of Kalkkisten village for applying for an ore prospecting permit. The previous one expired in autumn 2021.

The previous, more extensive reservation expired in the fall of 2021.

The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency Tukes has approved a new ore prospecting reservation on the east side of Kalkkisten village in Asikkala.

The reservation area extends from the eastern edge of Riihelä village, going around Jokela all the way to Ropoissaari.

Rare metals such as platinum, ruthenium, palladium and iridium are thought to be found in the area. Nickel and copper are also believed to be present in the soil.

The reservation has been made in the name of Kallio Exploration oy. The company also has an approved reservation for Lapland, in the area of \u200b\u200bSalla municipality in 2020.

It is a table drawer company typically used in connection with mineral exploration permits, which has no previous significant business. The company’s responsible persons elected in autumn 2021 are all Czech citizens.

The now approved reservation is valid for March 2025 and the company has the opportunity to apply for an ore prospecting permit before then.

Three years ago, a reservation was approved for a much wider area around Kalkkisten, which extended beyond Asikkala to Heinola and Sysmä. That had also been done in the name of the desk box company, but the reservation expired already in the fall of 2021.

At that time, the information about the reservation caused a wide-ranging public debate, where residents and cottagers who were worried about starting ore exploration emphasized the natural values \u200b\u200bof the area.

According to Koskinen, the residents’ association will now take a closer look at the plans that came out yesterday and consider whether it will file a complaint about the reservation, as it did with the previous one.

– We also need to investigate whether the municipality can influence the issue based on the new mining law that will enter into force at the beginning of June, for example by means of zoning, Koskinen reflects.
