Metsähallitus’ Nature Services currently owns all of Tönölä’s real estate: nature center Petola, two office buildings and accommodation facilities, the plan is to give them up entirely.
Metsähallitus is thinking about abandoning the nature center Petola in Kuhmo.
Metsähallitus says in its press release that the number of visitors to Petola Nature Center is small, around 6,000 visitors a year. Therefore, in the tightening economic situation, the operation of the nature center is critically examined.
Metsähallitus’ Nature Services currently owns all properties in Tönölä: nature center Petola, two office buildings and accommodation facilities, which are planned to be completely disposed of in accordance with the state’s real estate strategy.
Metsähallitus reminds that property management is not the core activity of Nature Services, so selling buildings is one possible option. Condition inspections of the buildings have been carried out and price estimates are currently being made. At the same time, Metsähallitus is investigating the possibilities of continuing the operation of the nature center Petola, for example as an entrepreneurial collaboration.
The city of Kuhmo has announced that it opposes the intentions of Metsähallitus. The city intends to prepare a statement to Metsähallitus against the abolition of Petola.
Next summer, the nature center Petola Kuhmo will be open from 4 to 29. July from Tuesday to Saturday. At other times, Petola’s customer service is provided by telephone and e-mail, for example in matters of camping advice, fishing, hunting and career permits.
