A fire broke out in the Savonsolmu Hotel on Easter Monday.

The city of Pieksämäki is waiting for the district court to issue an eviction order for Hotel Savonsolmu. Pending that, the city has decided to fence off the area. Work will start this week.

In Pieksämäki, the city of Pieksämäki is trying to prevent inappropriate stays in the area of the Savonsolmu hotel, which was destroyed by fire.

The City has received written permission from the property owner to fence the property and board up the ground floor windows. In addition, the City plans to replace the broken windows on the second floor.

The work will start this week and the city estimates the price tag at €10 000-20 000.

The cooling process proceeds slowly

The city of Pieksämäki is waiting for an eviction decision for hotel Savonsolmu from the district court. However, according to the city’s information, the subpoena application submitted in January could not have been delivered to the owner of the property, so the matter is progressing slowly. The land lease agreement for the plot was terminated last fall.

There has been a lot of vandalism inside the hotel, and it is dangerous to stay there, especially after the fire, says Anssi Tarkiainen, Deputy Head of Planning in Pieksämäki.

The hotel is located on a city plot, but the owner of the building has not paid rent for the plot for over a year. Only after the eviction is it possible for the city, for example, to demolish the hotel.

Owner’s consent to fencing

However, according to Tarkiainen, the city got permission from the owner of the property for the activities starting this week.

– Consent was obtained in writing, and it was only sought for fencing and boarding the windows. There was no other discussion about it, says Tarkiainen.

According to Anssi Tarkiainen, the city hopes to get rid of the hotel completely.

The police are investigating the fire in Savonsolmu at the beginning of the month under the criminal title of vandalism. The perpetrators are suspected to be two minors.
