A total of €562 million was spent by tourists in the region during the year, mostly on holiday or visiting relatives.
Tourism in the Tampere region has recovered to the levels seen before the interest rate pandemic.
In 2022, 4.2 million domestic trips were made to the region. In addition to this, Tampere was visited almost 900 000 times on the way to another main destination in Finland or abroad.
The number of foreign tourists is also on the rise. Last year, around 440 000 foreign tourists visited the region, compared to less than 400 000 before the koruna in 2019.
Tourists left money in the Tampere region totaling 562 million euros.
Domestic tourists spent 139 million euros on shopping and 136 million euros on accommodation services.
Foreigners’ share of the money was 104 million euros.
Tampere is visited for a holiday and to visit relatives
About 40 percent of domestic tourists visit the Tampere region on vacation. Almost the same number visit relatives or friends. The share of shopping trips is just over ten percent.
Almost half of the visits by foreign tourists were visits to relatives and friends, 38 percent were vacation trips and five percent were shopping trips.
The time spent by foreign tourists in Finland has increased. While foreigners who visited Finland in 2019 stayed an average of 3.2 nights, last year the stay was extended to 6.5 nights.
The results are clear from two studies carried out by TAK Research. More than 7,000 foreigners and around 12,000 domestic tourists were interviewed for the research.
