Every tenth visitor to Kemi’s museums in the summer was from abroad. A third of the visitors were from other places, especially from North Ostrobothnia and the capital region.
Last summer, the doors of Kemi’s museums were almost twice as tight as the previous summer. The number of visitors increased by forty percent from summer 2021.
– People have dared to get moving again and get involved in culture. The same phenomenon has been observed in other summer events. In addition, we have had good exhibitions that have attracted visitors, he says.
During the summer, the Kemi Art Museum, celebrating its anniversary, gathered 2,800 visitors, the historical museum about 2,400 visitors, and Savupirtti about 960 visitors.
About a third of the visitors were from out of town. Most visitors were from Northern Ostrobothnia and the capital region.
Every tenth museum visitor was from abroad. Kavasvuo says that foreign museum visitors came especially with two cruise ships that visited Kemi, just like last summer.
– Many of those who filled out the guest book were from Germany and England.
According to Kavasvuo, next summer the museums plan to invest in foreign visitors, for example by offering multilingual brochures.
– I hope there will be winter tourists too, he says.
