Lahti Energia has said that electricity distribution may have to be limited for a short period of time on cold frosty days. Outages would only affect rural areas.
Possible power outages due to power shortages will cause additional work on livestock farms. Lahti Energia said last week that it had updated the plans in case of a possible power shortage. Electricity consumption would be cut with rotating blackouts, but they would only target rural areas in Lahti.
– I believe that we can get through them too, but it always increases problems and work.
The situation will be easier if information about the time of the power outage comes in advance. However, it is possible that the electricity company has to limit the use of electricity without warning.
Livestock farms need electricity for, among other things, milking robots, air conditioning and milk cooling equipment. The operation of grain farms is not significantly affected by power outages during the winter.
Lahti Energia’s policy of emphasizing outages in sparsely populated areas also gets understanding from agricultural entrepreneurs.
– I think it would be more difficult to take it from the city, where, for example, elevators in apartment buildings run on electricity. There is probably no good solution here. If you have to go this way, you have to go this way and you have to live with it, says Juha Rekola.
Electricity distribution may have to be limited for a short period in different parts of the country if several large plant units are out of service at the same time on cold, frosty days.
The decision on restrictions is made by the grid company Fingrid. Potential times are the morning and afternoon hours, announced Lahti Energia last week.
