The new acting positions at Kemi Theatre have attracted applicants from all over Finland. The theatre selects the new actors from among several dozen candidates.
Kemi Theatre is currently recruiting new actors. During the spring, 5-7 new actors will be hired.
Three of the current four actors will not be with the theatre next autumn. Some of them are on sabbatical.
– The cast is diverse and talented. There is musicality, dancing and acrobatics. It’s all there,” says Niskanen.
The names of the new actors will be announced during the spring. They will start their work in August.
Niskanen started as executive director of Kemi Theater about three weeks ago. In the future, he wants to develop theater taking the local people and milieu into account.
– We are still a traditional repertory theater, but we also highlight locality. In other words, we make theater about themes that are close to the hearts of the people of Meri Lapland and the people of Lapland.
The renovation of the theater is in the final stage, and it is hoped that the new premises will be used in a variety of ways.
– Among other things, we thought about how the premises could perhaps be rented out to outsiders. These premises give really good opportunities to expand operations, says Niskanen.
