An electric lock for hikers on the Björkö-Paniken hiking trail is on its way – pending approval by the Regional Administrative Board

During the winter, the hiking trail has already been well improved.

During the winter, the route has been largely restored. The work will continue during the summer and should be completed in the autumn. The work will be slowed down to take account of the bird nesting season.

Construction work on the Björkö-Paniken hiking trail will be stepped up this summer. However, the missing permit for the castle is still awaited from the Regional Administrative Authority.

The solution chosen for the water crossing is an electric lock, which will be used by hikers on their own. The idea is that each hiker will take it in turns to drive the raft. Neilos VLR Oy , which has been developing the concept for a long time, has been chosen as the supplier of the raft.

There will also be new ring trails, a new rest stop at Stora Segelsören, and lots of new long poles and other hiking structures.

– Långgrund’s new ring route will offer a longer ring route option for hikers. During the winter, the Bullrikören and Långgrund rest areas have already been renovated, both have new grills, dry toilets and outdoor furniture.

Vargis’ burned terrace will also be renewed, and Panike’s parking area will be expanded.

Bird nesting times are taken into account

Most of the transportation of the camping structures has already been handled in the winter, as well as the clearing of the view of Saltkaret and the clearing of the Panike forest.

In order to protect the nesting season of the birds, the biggest works, such as Stora Segelsöret’s resting place and Långgrund’s brother-in-law, will not be completed until August. If the Regional Administration Agency grants a permit for the landing, the landing with the piers will also be installed only at the end of summer.

Hagström reminds that the situation of the basic improvement of the nature trail should be monitored on the Luontoon.fi website when planning a trip.

– The website tells about the current situation on the routes, where small changes will take place part by part during the summer. For example, signs, trail markers and maps change as new routes are introduced. The routes will mainly be in use throughout the summer, and the largest construction sites will be demarcated outside the routes, emphasizes Hagström.

The project is scheduled to be completed in its entirety in the fall.
