Ristijärvi was inspired by Yle’s Million Bags of Rubbish campaign

Almost all municipalities in Kainuu have already marked their rubbish bags as collected.

Yle’s nationwide campaign “One million bags of rubbish” started on Thursday. The campaign has been particularly popular in Kainuu, especially in Ristijärvi, where more than 200 bags of rubbish have been collected by Friday afternoon.

In Helsinki, for example, about a thousand more bin bags have been filled than in Ristijärvi.

Yle’s campaign aims to inspire people to pick up litter in the environment, to reduce indifference towards littering and to make people understand and see the amount of litter. Kajaani, Kuhmo, Sotkamo and Paltamo are among the municipalities in Kainuu.

Spring cleaning jobs last two months in total.

Everyone can take part in the million trash bags campaign, regardless of whether their locality is a partner. You do not need to register for the campaign separately.

Collected garbage bags are marked on a real-time updating counter for the location where the garbage bags were collected.
