The municipality of Kittilä sends its representative to the ministry – aiming to limit elk hunting by visiting teams

According to the municipality of Kittilä, there have been problems with elk hunting by visiting teams.

The municipality of Kittilä would like to see a reduction in hunting permits for visiting parties and give priority to locals when granting permits.

The Kittilä Municipal Council decided on Tuesday on the measures to be taken by the municipality to restrict elk hunting by visiting parties on the municipality’s territory.

The municipality will draft a letter to be distributed to the Members of Parliament of Lapland. In addition, representatives of the municipality will visit the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to take the matter forward.

The municipality would also like to see annual aerial censuses of the population to ensure that hunting is sustainable.

Locals first

Kittilä’s wish is that no dumping permits would be granted to visiting clubs in September.

– The number of permits for visiting parties would be reduced and locals would be prioritized, says Kurula.

The processing of hunting permits for visiting groups started in Kittilä with the council initiative of Akseli Erkkilä (municipal list).

The city government proposes to the council that the initiative is considered finished.
