The size of the performance stage in the hall increases by no less than 70 square meters, and its surface material is changed to light birch, which brightens and diversifies the soundscape of the stage. Observation picture.

The renovation will provide the symphony orchestra with a sufficiently large performance stage and acoustics, thanks to which the musicians can hear each other’s playing – unlike the current facilities in the theater building.

The city of Jyväskylä is currently renovating the Paviljonki exhibition hall for use by the Jyväskylä Sinfonia. However, the hall is not the final solution.

A concert hall has been planned in various projects in Jyväskylä for years. For the time being, the symphony plays at the theater building in Jyväskylä, where renovations are also about to begin. In the future, the theater will also move to the exhibition center.

An acoustic orchestra and entertainment events are arranged in the same space

In the renovation that has now started, the 1,200-seat Wilhelm hall will be transformed into a multi-purpose concert hall during the rest of the year. Along with Sinfonia, it is also used by Jyväskylä Messut. In addition to the city’s contribution, the fair company will renew the hall’s sound system.

Events from concerts to seminars and entertainment events are organized in the renovated hall. The hall will be one of the largest in Finland in terms of audience capacity.

In the renovation, among other things, the hall’s acoustics will improve for both the audience and the musicians, and the size of the performance stage will increase. In order to get more space for the performance stage, the wall of the fair hall also needs to be opened.

– The problem we’ve had until now is that our musicians can’t hear each other. On stage, the sound seems to disappear. Now the acoustics are also improving on stage, among the orchestra. It’s really nice that the musicians can hear each other, says Hakola.

The new space makes it possible to increase the audience for concerts. The Sinfonia’s practice will also move to Paviljonki.

The acoustics are polished with the help of professionals and musicians

In addition, sound-improving materials and surfaces that reflect acoustics will be added to the ceiling of the hall. The hall’s performance technology will also be renewed to meet today’s requirements.

Jyväskylä Sinfonia will test the hall’s acoustics a few times during the fall, when fine adjustments can be made.

The renovation will be completed in the fall and the Symphony will start in the hall at the beginning of next year.

The name of the space currently known as the Wilhelm Hall is also planned to be changed with a name contest before the Symphony starts playing in the space.
