Matti Heikkinen is the patron of the Kainuu Crossing Week this coming summer – the orienteering event is being held for the 55th time already

Matti Heikkinen, originally from Kajaani, has been the director of the elite sports unit of the Finnish Olympic Committee since September 2022.

Kainuu Rastiviikko takes place in July in Jämäsvaara, Kuhmo. 4,000–5,000 people are expected at the event during the six event days.

– He gladly agreed to the task because he appreciates the work done in Kainuu for decades in organizing the world’s second oldest orienteering and holiday week, both in terms of competition and tourism, Juntunen says in the press release.

Kainuu Rastiviikko will be organized for the 55th time from 2nd to 7th. July in Jämäsvaara, Kuhmo. 4,000-5,000 people are expected at the event during the six event days.

1,300-1,500 fitness orienteers will participate in the evening cross-type courses of different levels. 1,600-1,900 race orienteers will come to the event, and 250-350 bike orienteers will come to Kainuu for the Cycle Orienteering Cross Week.

In addition, a total of 1,000-1,500 spectators and orienteers’ maintenance crews are expected.
