The art house was opened in the premises of Rettig’s old tobacco factory in May 2022.

About 70 percent of the premises of the art house, which has been in operation for less than a year, are in use. The rest of the facilities are currently being renovated to usable condition.

Turku Taitee talo, which opened in Rettig’s old tobacco factory in May of last year, plans to multiply its number of visitors by next summer.

According to Vaimala, increasing the number of visitors is to be done by increasing services and increasing the openness of the house.

The goal is for people to get into the building even when there are no separate events going on.

At the beginning of the year, the city of Turku conducted a survey, in which the Art House tried to find out what the people of Turku want from the activities of the house.

– The survey clearly expressed the wish that the art house would be physically and mentally open. People want to be able to experience and see the operation of the house for themselves, says Vaimala.

Restaurant open in June

In addition, it was hoped that the Art House would enliven the area of \u200b\u200bTurku’s old town with art and performances. The third item that was clearly desired in the survey was Taitee talo’s cafe and restaurant services.

– As the services are opened, the number of visitors will certainly increase. We will be able to open some kind of restaurant or cafe operation by the beginning of June, Vaimala says.

The utilization rate of the premises of the Art House is currently around 70 percent. According to Vaimala, empty spaces are mostly spaces awaiting renovation.

For example, at the end of the Brinkkala house, demolition work is being done at the old fire station. Empty spaces are gradually taken into use when renovations are completed.
