Summer nutrient concentrations in the Enonselkä and Komonselkä lakes have been on a slight downward trend in recent years. Last summer’s average phosphorus concentration was the lowest in the 30-year period.

Strong predator stocks
According to the report, the structure of the Vesijärvi fishery is good and the predatory fish stocks are strong. The shell population recovers slowly in the lake, but the perch were more abundant than the roach. The share of predatory fish has stabilized at over 30 percent.
The walleye and perch populations in Vesijärvi have been strengthening for several years.
Water system expert Mirva Ketola reminds that in the 1970s and 1980s Lake Vesijärvi was in the worst condition of Finland’s large lakes. The lake has been purposefully renovated in recent decades.
