The existing petrol station on the site is to be demolished.
The cliffs of Viidennumo have been a recreation area for the citizens for decades. The area is along a popular cycling route.
The city of Valkeakoski says it wants to preserve the scenically valuable beach areas as a general recreational area for the citizens. It would also like to develop the area for tourism.
The costs for the city from using the preemption are the purchase price of 390,000 euros and the costs for the buyer from the sale, such as demolition permits and asbestos surveying. In addition, the city must pay for the demolition of the buildings.
The service station must be demolished by next summer, the other properties later.
