Iida Rauma’s Finlandia Award-winning Hävitys is nominated for the EU Literature Prize

Iida Rauman Rauma’s novel Hävitys – a case report is a description of the trauma caused by school bullying and school violence.

Rauma is competing for the award with twelve other writers from different EU countries.

The candidates for the EU Literature Prize for 2023 were announced at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair on Tuesday.

This year, 13 fiction writers from different EU countries are competing for the award. The EU literature prize rotates, that is, different EU countries participate in the prize in different years.

The Finnish candidate will be appointed by Lukukeskus, the Book Shop Association and Aamulehti in cooperation with the Finnish Literature Export Center FILI.

This year, exceptionally, only one of the candidates will be awarded. The final winner will be announced at the Leipzig Book Fair at the end of April. The selection is made by a seven-person jury, which in addition to the winner chooses five honorable mentions among the candidate books.

The purpose of the European Union Literature Prize is to promote the visibility of modern European literature and highlight its richness and diversity. The monetary value of the prize is 5,000 euros.
