The maintenance of the tower belongs to Metsähallitus, but the large facility does not seem to be able to find repair money quickly. In Kangasa, we want to get the popular destination in order already for next summer’s tourist season.
The tower, located on Vehoniemenharju in Kangasala, next to the car museum, has great views both towards Roine and Längelmävesi.
The car museum, observation tower, cafe and Metsähallitus nature reserve are a whole that attracts visitors. At the moment, however, the Vehoniemi observation tower is closed due to the softening of the structures on the upper platform.
Kangasa is now trying to find a solution with local forces as well. The municipal decision-makers, Metsähallitus and business company Business Kangasala have recently discussed how to organize the repair. There are no decisions yet. The solution can consist of, for example, housework and donation money.
The growth of the forest in front of the view has also caused some concern in Vehoniemi. According to Jussi Haavisto, it is also good to remember, but in his opinion, the view from the tower was quite good even last summer.
– It’s a really great and valuable and popular destination. There are a lot of visitors, he states.
The popularity of the tower obviously favors a quick opening. At the same time, it means that the structures must withstand a considerable flow of visitors. In any case, Metsähallitus experts are involved in the renovation so that repairs are made in accordance with both historical and safety requirements.
