– I consider these flights very important, especially now that I start a new job in Helsinki, where I have to be every day or at least every week, Kirppu says.
The flights will be operated under a temporary contract until October, during which time the flights will be tendered again. After that, flights should be secured until 2025.
The flights stopped in December, when Transavia Baltika, the winner of the previous tender, unilaterally canceled the contract.
– It’s always a celebration when we get to start with a new operator. It’s good that a temporary shelter was obtained before a longer shelter is obtained through the new competition.
In the coming summer, the Savonlinna airport will also be bustling with charter flights: four charter flights will arrive in Savonlinna from the Netherlands and four flights from Frankfurt, Germany.
