The flight connection to Frankfurt was already agreed upon a couple of years ago, but Korona postponed the plans.
Starting in August, there is a direct flight from Savonlinna to Frankfurt, Germany.
The city of Savonlinna has negotiated a cooperation agreement with tour operator Zonista and Business Finland for charter flights, which will initially be flown four times in August and September.
– Since the Finnish government has closed the border to Russian tourists, the Savonlinna airport is a key factor in the internationalization of Savonlinna’s tourism, Laine says.
A preliminary agreement on the flights was made already in 2020, but due to the corona virus, the conclusion of the final agreement was delayed. The cooperation agreement also has an option for the years 2024 and 2025.
The city’s share of marketing cooperation is 100,000 euros.
There are also three charter flights from Savonlinna to Rotterdam in June.
The Rotterdam flights were agreed in January with the European tour operator Voigt Travel. Business Finland is also involved in the cooperation agreement.
