The disappearance of Russian customers and the problems with air traffic made the municipalities cooperate. Joint tour products are planned, among other things.
Joensuu, Kuopio, Sotkamo, Lieksa and Nurmes are launching a joint project, the aim of which is to promote the international demand and accessibility of Tahko, Kol and Vuokatti in particular.
The project, which will start in April, aims to develop tour products between the regions, increase the service offering and raise the profile of the regions in the international market. It is planned to improve the accessibility of destinations by, among other things, finding ways to increase air traffic.
The background of the project is, among other things, the demand shock experienced by the tourism industry in Eastern Finland after Russian customers disappeared from the market and the exceptionally difficult situation of air traffic.
The total cost estimate of the coordination project is 177,100 euros, which each city and municipality will finance with a contribution of 10,626 euros. It is known to be the first extensive cross-provincial cooperation project in the tourism industry in the region.
