In just over ten years, the economic impact of camping has tripled.
The impact of hiking on the economy in the vicinity of Salamajärvi National Park has multiplied in just over ten years.
The trip is calculated to bring, for example, Perho, Kinnula and Kivijärvi around 600,000 euros per year. More than 10 years ago, the amount was a third of this.
Metsähallitus’ visitor survey from last year shows that a visitor spends around 44 euros at one time in the park and in the surrounding area. In 2011, the euro amount was 32.
The number of visitors to Salamajärvi National Park has almost doubled in more than ten years. It is now over 25,000, up from 13,000 in 2011.
The park is especially frequented by visitors from Jyväskylä, Perho, Helsinki, Kokkola and Kuopio.
Most of the guests (62%) stay at Salamajärvi. On average, we spend two days in the park.
According to a recent visitor survey, people now go to the park to hike and enjoy nature and camping. You don’t go fishing, picking berries or watching birds anymore.
Visitors are satisfied with Salamajärvi’s services, for example cleanliness, safety, firewood, parking spaces, fire pits and shelters.
They are the most dissatisfied with the service in the area.
Metsähallitus conducted a visitor survey in 2022. The previous survey was conducted in 2011.
