The song by a previously unknown artist has now been listened to millions of times on Spotify and YouTube.
#Cha cha cha cha cha cha cha! #
This phrase has been danced to and shouted over the past month at Lapland after-ski parties and at the nightclub of Hotel Vantaa.
The song *Cha cha cha* by Käärijä has become the biggest music phenomenon in Finland at the beginning of the year. The final song of the New Music Competition broke the bank when it was released.
The song performed by a completely unknown artist combines metal, electronic music, rap and pop into party songs in a way that has not been heard before.
The song has so far collected more than three million listens on Spotify. The music video of the show wrestler has been watched almost one and a half million times on YouTube.
The special song has attracted attention from abroad and is the early favorite to win UMK.
– At first, no one knew who Käärijä was. Nobody was even interested in the end games. Suddenly, we are early favorites.
Wraps is a humour man
Pöyhönen, who grew up in Vantaa, started his rap career as a joke. As a child, he had played drums and rock, but in his teenage years, rap music became his pattern.
A group of friends suddenly started to like songs made with clapboards, so Pöyhönen decided to take music making seriously almost ten years ago.
At first, the rapper’s style varied from traditional rap to pop, until he found his own thing by chance. He once went roaring into the mic in the mood for a prank, and it sounded surprisingly good. Käärijä’s music started to become more aggressive in tempo with metal nuances.
The music style also needed its own style that would attract attention. Pöyhönen came up with the idea of \u200b\u200bcutting the roughest potty hair, the likes of which had not been seen on anyone since the 1990s. He put on a bright yellow suit.
The wrapper character was ready when Pöyhönen added humor to it. In a potty hat and a suit, Pöyhönen could fool around freely like a sketch character.
– I just started fooling around. But I don’t even present anything, they just come naturally. I will 150% guarantee that every movement or other of Käärija is also Jereä. But I don’t do it as Jere.
– To me, fooling around isn’t fooling around or doing mischievous things, but embarrassing yourself. I like that.
Cha cha cha started with the hip movement
The song was influenced by the rapper’s fan Rammstein. There were also electronic vibes.
The catchy Cha Cha Cha hokema of the song was born by chance. During the making of the song, Käärijä was swinging his hips and another producer said that it’s like Cha Cha chat. In everyone’s opinion, the name of the globally known dance style fit the song perfectly in its strangeness.
At first, the song was about Mr. Cha Cha cha, or Käärijä, who brings the party to the place and entertains the people. In the final version, the story tells about Finnish drinking culture. In it, a man goes to the track after a long week to have drinks until he breaks free and dares to dance on the dance floor.
The story also comes true in the song’s special structure. The beginning of the song is aggressive industrial techno, until halfway through the style unexpectedly changes to more traditional dance pop.
– Some have only liked the first part and some have liked the second part. On the other hand, I think it’s a sweet thing. You get listeners to both genres and even fall in love with the part you don’t like so much.
Hard hitting and plagiarism accusations
A catchy humorous party song like *Cha Cha chan* has struck a chord with Finns. When a song deals with drinking culture, you can’t go wrong.
When the song still includes the metal that Finns love, many have written in the online comments that they now have the same possibilities for visa success as Lorde.
Käärijä has received a huge amount of feedback about the song and, according to him, it has almost always been positive. However, he did not expect such great popularity.
– Damn, yes, it surprised me. I had a feeling that we had a big hit coming, but I didn’t expect this.
And not only Finns have felt the song. Vios fans following UMK have praised the song for being so original that if it represents Finland in Eurovision, top places and even victory could be possible.
Success also brings gravel sounds. Right after the song’s release, Käärijä had to answer plagiarism accusations.
The *Cha Cha cha* song reminded many people of the German Electric Callboy’s *We Got the Moves* song. To top it all off, in the music video for the song, the band appears in potty hairdos.
The wrapper agrees that the songs are similar within the music genre. But according to him, it’s the same in many other styles of music, whether it’s rap, punk or hard rock.
The rapper has only been happy with the plagiarism scandal, because it has brought free advertising and column space. He even plans to go see a German band when they arrive next month to perform in Helsinki.
– I got a little more buzz. That would be a suitable middle finger for those guys who think the song is plagiarized. That this plagiarism giant is now here wondering what to plagiarize next, Käärijä grins.
The song has encouraged people
*Cha Cha cha* has collected millions of listening and viewing times in a month. The wrapper is of course happy about them, because they have brought publicity and spawned, for example, gigs.
However, the feedback he has received from the song is more important to him than numbers.
– It has even saved the everyday life of a person who has been depressed or suffered from some illness. It’s ready to go.
– It has been sweet to hear how you can influence a person’s state of mind and well-being with your own production.
The rapper himself has experienced difficult times in his life, which he has opened up during the UMK competition.
A gleam of victory in the eye
The wrapper cannot reveal what his live performance will be like in the UMK finals held a week from now.
However, the rapper has a strong desire to win UMK and to represent Finland in Liverpool’s Eurovision Song Contest in May. He has a sports background, so he likes to win.
The victory is not announced in the church, although he is the early favorite.
– I have never been a favorite anywhere. I’ve always been the underdog and I’ve liked it. There, the gang has terrible expectations, which creates a certain kind of pressure on yourself. But now there is a place for the screen.
*UMK’s final will be held on Saturday, February 25 in Turku’s Logomo. In addition to Käärija, Keira, Benjamin, Robin Packalen, Lxandra, Kuumaa and Portion Boys are competing for a place in the Eurovision Song Contest.*
