The previous creative director, Virgil Abloh, died suddenly in 2021, and Williams’ selection came as little surprise to the fashion industry, even though he has worked with a prestigious fashion house in the past.

Williams is the second African-American fashion expert in history to be hired by the legendary French brand. The creative designer’s job was predicted to go elsewhere, so Williams’ selection perhaps came as something of a surprise to the fashion industry.
According to a Louis Vuitton press release, Williams’ “creative universes extend from music to fashion and art”. His first collection is due to be presented at Paris Men’s Fashion Week next summer.
Since then, Williams has emerged as one of the most influential music producers of the 21st century. The credit list includes 13 Grammy awards and an Oscar nomination.
He has also collaborated with the Adidas Originals brand for a long time.
This is not the first time Williams has had a priest on board at Louis Vuitton. He collaborated with the brand already in the first decade of the 2000s.
