Children’s works have traditionally been displayed in schools. Now they want to make it accessible to everyone.
At noon, a community artwork by children was unveiled at Joensuu market. The “Friendship Square” contains 1 200 drawings and paintings by primary school children, depicting peace and friendship. Some of the pictures also include phrases and texts.
Printed on vinyl, the images are 1.80 metres high and 110 metres long, and it is hoped that people will stop to admire them. The work will be on display until the summer.
– Friendship is trust and understanding, hope and support,” Saastamoinen says.
According to him, during the day it has been nice to watch with friends what kind of work the other children have done. There have also been grandparents who have been looking for work done by their grandchildren.
– This is a great opportunity to see what the children think and give us adults something to think about, Tiitinen says.
