The project has previously helped to create wetland habitats in an old field in Vöyry and in the bay of Lake Luodonjärvi in Pedersöre.
The Finnish Game Centre is looking for sites to be established as wetlands in the Ostrobothnia region. The Sotka project, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, will restore wetlands mainly by damming to improve the reproductive success of declining waterfowl populations.
The project will provide the design of the wetland, but the necessary funds for its implementation will have to be found from other sources.
Most of the restored sites belong to private landowners who have chosen to create a wetland.
The project implemented more than 630 hectares of habitat for waterfowl chicks in the period 2020–2022. In the ongoing follow-up project, the goal is to design at least 40 large-sized nest habitats and to promote easily and cheaply implemented habitat renovations.
With the help of the project, wetland habitats have been built, for example, in an old field area in Vöyri and in the bay of Luodonjärvi in \u200b\u200bPedersöre.
