Nicholas Collon.
Nicholas Colloni is thanked for bringing versatile orchestral music to Yle’s channels.

Nicholas Collon, who started as chief conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO) in autumn 2021, will continue in his position until summer 2028.

The musicians of the RSO unanimously decided to call Collon as chief conductor, and they were equally unanimous about extending the contract.

Collon, who turns 40 today, Tuesday, is also happy about the contract renewal.

– I really enjoyed working with these exceptionally talented musicians. I am happy to call them friends and colleagues. It is also a privilege to be able to plan such versatile and exciting concert programs, which the public both in Musiikkitalo and through Yle’s channels in Finland and abroad want to hear.

– At the same time, Collon has brought with it a fresh breath of internationality, e.g. with the international attention gained by successful concert visits and recordings.\”

In addition to Finland, the RSO and Collon have performed to a full house at the BBC Proms festival in London and on a German tour in Nuremberg, Regensburg and Wiesbaden. The prestigious Gramophone magazine selected Sibelius’ orchestral music recording among the best records of 2022.
