The exhibition, which opens in Hakasalmi’s villa on the last day of March, presents a collection of Donner’s travel photos from different parts of the world.
Now the photos are being put together in Hakasalmi’s villa in Helsinki for a photo exhibition, which will open to the public on March 31.
The working group building the exhibition decided to focus on photographs taken during trips abroad. According to them, it was from those pictures that Donner had come up with the idea for the photo exhibition. The pictures are from the years 1951–68.
The members of the working group have worked in Donner’s residence at Pohjoisranta 12. The address houses a house owned by the Donner cultural family for more than 130 years for artist work groups after his death.
In the announcement of the exhibition, Shakya states that curating the exhibition posthumously is challenging. Along the way, many questions arise that have no answers.
– In the exhibition, Jörn Donner, who is unyielding and contradictory in his public image, is revealed above all as a person with an insatiable, curious and human gaze.
In addition to the travel photos, the exhibition also includes a few letters and souvenirs written by Donner. Hakasalmi’s villa is part of the Helsinki City Museum.
