The prototype of the well-known cartoon is Orivesi: this is what real life Mämmilä looks like

In the upper edge of the colorful cartoon reads Innostava Orivesi. In the cartoon, the old man Vilhelm Varpunen-character shows how Orivesi is the center of universal harmony. This is illustrated by, among other things, the location on the map and a cross-section of the soil.
This is what the strategy cartoon commissioned by the city of Orivesi and drawn by Tarmo Koivisto looks like. Vilhelm Varpunen, known from Mämmila, also acts as the narrator of the cartoon.

Cartoon artist Tarmo Koivisto drew his birthplace Orivesi as a cartoon.

Orivet, Koivisto’s birthplace, has been considered the prototype of the fictional Mämmilä.

The new cartoon opens the connection between Mämmilä and Orivesi. The city of Orivesi commissioned cartoon artist Koivisto to present the city’s strategy as a cartoon.

Koivisto says that the task seemed difficult at first. Strategy is already abstract as a word.

– I was already about to refuse, because there didn’t seem to be anything concrete in the strategy. Comics, on the other hand, are pictures and action, and I thought nothing would come of this. I slept overnight and in the morning I thought that the matter could be looked at through someone else’s eyes, Koivisto says in the press release.

He took the point of view of Mämmilä’s character Varpu-Viljam and the village sage.

\”Finland and Orivesi are located at the golden intersection\”

The location of Orivesi was found to help the cartoon.

– I have studied mathematics for a long time and read about the golden ratio. I realized that Finland and Orivesi are really located in the golden section of the earth, in an excellent position in the world, says Koivisto.

Vilhelm Varpunen, well-known from Mämmilä, also acts as the narrator of the cartoon, who shows the relationship between fact and fiction and Orivesi’s central location at the golden intersection and between the region’s most beautiful municipalities with the toe of a well watcher.

It was important for the city of Orivesi that the cartoon highlights well-known landmarks, such as Auvinen’s house, Rönni’s dance stage, Orivesi Campus and celebrity Parvelan Retu.

According to Koivisto, Orivesi has influenced the Mämmilä cartoon, even though he left for the world right after high school.

During Koivisto’s childhood, in the 1950s, Orivede had a church village, a horse ride, a neighbor’s help and talkoots. This was something of an idyll, and a lot has changed since then. Koivisto still has a home in Orivede.

Despite the changes, the spirit of Orivesi has been preserved well.

– I don’t feel like a stranger when I come there. Orivesi is a pleasant place and all important things are stored there. I’m from Orivesi and that’s why I’m staying, says Koivisto.
