Everything Everywhere All at Once received no fewer than 11 Oscar nominations. Top Gun and Avatar, among others, were left behind. Germany’s West Front Nothing New also picked up nominations.
The multiverse-hopping rescue comedy left behind blockbusters like *Top Gun: Maverick* and *Avatar: The Way of Water*, but it was the first time two sequels have been nominated for Best Picture.
Other award favourites include the Irish black comedy *The Banshees of Inisherin* and the German remake of the classic World War I film *Im Westen nichts Neues* (Nothing New on the Western Front). Both films received nine nominations. Netflix’s *The West is Nothing New* is on a roll, with no fewer than 14 Bafta nominations last week.
The winners will be announced at the Oscars on 12 March.
