Three new nature reserves have been created in northern Espoo, the city says in a press release.
New nature reserves The Liselott nature reserve is on Lake Siikka.
Liselott, which covers 2.4 hectares, is a valuable forest area with aspen and spruce trees, according to the city.
Breeding and resting places for flying squirrels have been found in the area. There is also a lot of rotting wood, which is important for biodiversity.
Nipperinpelto slope grove is a 1.4-hectare area near Liselotti, where flying squirrels also enjoy themselves. Large forest lindens, aspens and spruces grow in the area.
Located in Siikajärvi, on the border of Espoo and Kirkkonummi, Soidensuo is an area of \u200b\u200b5.9 hectares. In the marsh surrounded by forests, a very endangered grass sedge grows.
Over a hundred nature reserves in the city
After the establishment of Liselot, Niipperinpello slopes and Soidensuo protected areas, Espoo has more than a hundred nature protected areas.
They cover 13 percent of Espoo’s land area.
There are paths in Espoo’s new nature reserves, but they do not have signposts or camping structures. You can refresh yourself in the areas in accordance with the rights of every man.
By 2030, Espoo plans to establish at least 23 more nature reserves.
The city would like to see Espoo’s underwater nature also get new nature reserves in the future.
