Protesters returned to Aalalunturi and plan to stop logging again

Demonstrators protesting against logging by Metsähallitus returned to the Aalistunturi area in Kolari today.

Protesters stopped logging once before

Logging by Metsähallitus in the Aalistunturi area of \u200b\u200bKolar was interrupted once before. The protesters announced that they had stopped the logging in the night between Sunday and Monday. The protesters blocked the traffic for winter trucks made of snow for logging. According to Ida Korhonen, there were 15 protesters at that time.

On Tuesday evening, the police arrested the protesters, and they were taken to the police prison, i.e., to the Rovaniemi police station, so that the Metsähallitus could continue logging.

The police released the protesters on Wednesday. Demonstrators are suspected of violating control and fighting the police.

The fellings are close to the Aalistunturi nature reserve, which has been proposed for expansion. A national park has also been proposed for the area. Activists demand Metsähallitut to give up logging until the protection proposals have been processed in the Ministry of the Environment.
