The company, which specialises in concrete structural components, connector structures and wind energy solutions, employs more than 300 people in Finland. This year, expectations are even more moderate.

Peikko, a manufacturer of concrete joints and joists, among other things, expects this year to be more moderate than last year.

According to preliminary data, the company’s turnover for last year has increased by about one fifth from the year before to approximately EUR 310 million. Part of the increase was due to higher raw material prices.

According to Paananen, housing construction output in Finland is going down, but there is plenty of work in other construction sectors.

The international family business employs a total of more than 300 people at its headquarters and factory in Lahti. Paananen cannot accurately predict the need for a new workforce yet.

– The lavish recruitments are currently on hold. Time will tell if the situation will change in late spring or autumn.

Peikko has been trying to sell its Russian business since last autumn.

– The official approvals have been made so that no one can get away from it. Technically, we are owners of a small business, but in May of last year we wrote down the activities, i.e. as a loss on our balance sheet, Paananen says.
